Life Grows

I feel many things more intensely than ever before, and for me life grows more fascinating.
-Pablo Casals

A tangle of wood
a mighty trunk with stories
continue to feed

The leaves are gone to
prepare for winter snow and
a deep, peaceful sleep

Trees cut for water
Aridity denied and
a lakebed exposed

Winter two-track road
through the leafless aspen wood
the distant black calls

The creek leads to a
A ranch with stories and a
distant clearing storm

Abandoned front porch
A tipped chair a person sat
I would like upright

A grand mountain range
to wonder what is beyond
or enjoy the view

The dog looks at me
John Deere and the dead-end sign
tell different stories

A foggy morning
a river in the distance
is a streak of cloud

The canyon shinning
from winter light, shadows show
abstract plant and rock

In the spring, I catch
In the snow, I remember
speckled trout released.
